Corporate-Website-Relaunch: CISPA.

Next-generation cybersecurity.

CISPA, the Helmholtz Centre for Information Security, is a relatively young but highly ambitious research institution in Germany with an international focus. The scientists in the Saarland capital are exploring global cybersecurity in all its facets – adhering to the highest standards in the world.

Together with us as a B2B agency, CISPA is now setting the highest standards online with its new corporate website.

A website with many facets.

The website aims to create a virtual touchpoint with CISPA. In other words, approachability and humanity are emphasised alongside expertise and research.

Together with our client, we created a website with many facets:

  • A new and modern narrative style that engages a young audience and attracts them to CISPA.
  • A design that significantly differentiates itself from other science/university websites while appealing to a broad public.
  • Flexible programming, thanks to an atomic design principle.

Because a special website deserves a special award – the new appearance of CISPA was honoured with the Silver Award in the Website & Microsite category at the Annual Multimedia Award 2022.

Website relaunch: Research in the spotlight.

The new website aimed to sharpen the perception of CISPA as a research institution for the next generation – especially in the competition for top international scientific talent, where CISPA competes with renowned institutions such as MIT and Stanford. The focus had to be on research, providing it with a new platform.

Emerging researchers should encounter a contemporary appearance that distinctly sets itself apart from comparable institutions and resonates with the young audience in their everyday lives. The solution? A reimagined design language!

The development of a visual language.

The new design approach incorporates the proportions and design language of the CISPA headquarters and translates them into the web. Like the headquarters, the new website is designed to be open, modern, and modular.

The biggest challenge was meeting the accessibility requirements according to BITV 2.0. Given that the site contains a lot of content and lighting conditions can vary significantly, especially in mobile environments, a dark mode was developed. This ensures that the content is easy to read – anytime, anywhere. Furthermore, this approach created a clear contrast to the typical blue-and-white, "PDF-like" presentation of countless universities and research institutions.

Programming: User-friendly management at an atomic level.

The entire site was designed according to the atomic design principle, which breaks down the key elements into very small components. This approach ensures the most flexible programming and application possible. The sophisticated technological implementation was carried out in collaboration with our partner, SHE.

Pimcore as the central experience management system.

The Open Source content management system Pimcore serves as the central technological foundation of the new website, meeting the demanding CMS requirements:

  • Very simple management by the website authors.
  • Administration of extensive master data, including over 3,000 scientific publications and X researcher profiles, using an integrated PIM solution.
  • Comprehensive rights and roles concept for over 350 authors.
  • Compliance with the highest security standards.
  • Optimal accessibility according to BITV 2.0.

CISPA: Because research is sexy.

A modern narrative style, an attractive and unique design, and flexible adjustments in the backend: the new website gives CISPA's research a fresh face.

You can see for yourself: CISPA.
